Golf Courses

Anoreta

Opened in 1990 and located near the town of Rincón de la Victoria, Añoreta was the first golf course designed in the Axarquia region and offers a real challenge to golfers of all abilities.

Designed by the famous Ryder Cup player, José María Cañizares the course design incorporates the natural surroundings of the area featuring many trees and water, which accentuates the course’s natural beauty.

Due to the location here on the Mediterranean, the subtropical climate makes it great to play year-round and ideal for a golf trip to Spain. The course also offers some of the most stunning panoramic sea and coastal views from a number of its holes, including the spectacular 7th hole.

Two of the most popular holes on the course include the challenging par three seventeenth, which is surrounded by a large lake and the 18th hole, which is a stunning golf hole surrounded by natural vegetation and water. In fact, water comes into play on no less than 11 of the holes.

Lauro

Lauro Golf is a cracking course and one of the most popular golf courses in Malaga.

You will find Lauro Golf surrounded by spectacular nature. The course has 27 holes that can be played in three different combinations, all of par 72.

The picture above, the 27th, for me is the best hole at Lauro 513 meters par 5 looking down over the whole course, Guadalhorce Valley, the port of Malaga and the Mediterranean sea.

Don’t lose your drive to the right here or you will have one less ball in your bag and the boys that fish them out will have one more!!.

Lauro Golf has a vast array of wildlife, rabbits, ducks, partridges, herons and even eagles on and around the golf course. Plus turtles, frogs and fish in their 14 lakes.

The clubhouse at Lauro is in the style of an old Andalusian Cortijo. It has great facilities, restaurant, changing and locker rooms, a pro shop and a lovely terrace for a beer after your round.

Lauro Golf also has a swimming pool, padel tennis courts, lawn bowls and an equestrian center.

Hole 1 is a very easy start, long iron of the tee carrying over the lake and then an easy wedge to the large elevated green.

Hole 2, a par 3 of 132 metres is a very easy hole, with bunkers left and right of the very large green with a bank to the right and rear that will kick your ball onto the putting surface.

Hole 4 is a par 3 where you may find it difficult to reach the green in one shot as the green is greatly elevated from the tee.

If you are a big hitter the 9 and 18 have lakes around 200 meters from the tee so a long iron or rescue may be the choice here. Or if you are feeling heroic try and smash it straight over and onto the green. Best of luck!!.

Hole 13 is one of the hardest at Lauro Golf. It’s a par 5 measuring 573 metres. Out of bounds will be found down the right of the fairways and scrub-land and trees to the left.

Holes 19 to 27 are by far the easier 9 at Lauro with wide fairways, and little water but it does play longer.

It starts with a par 5 of 470 metres off the whites 3 easy hits and you are on but watch the many bunkers surrounding the green.

Miraflores

Miraflores Golf has been a favourite here since the early 90’s and offers very good value to golfers all year round. I find it to be one of the nicest for views too!

They have a superb driving range with two-tiered practice area both of which are undercover. This is a must if you want to practice when the sun is beating down overhead.

The golf academy also has it’s own bar and pro shop which are separate to the club.

There is a wonderful clubhouse with an excellent well-stocked restaurant that offers a range of quality live entertainment 4 nights of the week.

Downstairs you will find the terrace bar. It’s a  great place for a cool drink after your round of golf.

Torrequebrada

Torrequebrada Golf Course is often described as like playing a British parkland course and you have to agree with that after you have completed a round here.

There is a nice relaxing start to the course with a wide fairway on the first of the par 5 holes. The one thing you don’t want to do though is go to long from your up-hill fairway to the elevated green because you will be on the next tee!

Santana

Santana Golf & Country Club is an 18 Hole golf course par 72 and measures approximately 6203 metres or just under 7,000 yards in length. The course sits in the middle of 138 acres of stunning parkland filled with Avocado trees, along with many other trees such as Eucalyptus, Orange and Lemons, Cactus, Pines and Fig. All you need to do, is make sure you do not put your ball in the middle of them!

Calanova

Located in the stunning ‘golf valley’ close to the town of La Cala de Mijas and just a few minutes from the lovely local beaches, the Calanova course is a great course to play during your golf trip to Spain and is suitable for golfers of all playing abilities.

The course is one of the newest on the Costa del Sol and was first opened in May 2006. It’s an 18 hole, par 72 course which is well maintained and of which has been designed with USGA rules and regulations in mind.

A great characteristic of the Calanova course is that it has over 500 sqm of greens, meaning easier approach shots. This also means that there is the possibility of a wide range of pin positions from the simple to the extremely challenging.

Another feature of the Calanova golf course is that the tee positions are spread over a number of different platforms giving players the opportunity to play the course over a range of distances. Some of the elevated tees also make for some spectacular tee shots where players can visualise the flight of the shot before playing their shot.

Due to the beautiful natural landscapes, almost every golf hole will provide you with lovely views to the La Cala de Mijas mountains and the Mediterranean sea.

The course is easily accessible via the N-340 motorway and is just 25 minutes from Malaga airport (AGP).

El chapparal

Located just 20 minutes from Malaga City and Airport, El Chaparral is one of the Costa del Sol’s favourite golf courses. It’s one of the most popular 18 hole courses on the coast for those looking to experience the challenge of some of Spain’s top golf courses, while enjoying the warm and sunny year round climate.

The course offers views to the Costa del Sol’s stunning coastline, the surrounding natural terrain and meanders through indigenous pine forests.

The El Chaparral course is not only beautiful to look at, it’s also a challenging course unique in the fact that it is the only course on the coast which has six par 3’s, six par 4’s and six par 5 holes.

Imagine yourself poised on the tee, your attention distracted only by the panorama, the warm sea breezes and the scent of the Mediterranean brush and pine. A golfers paradise!

El chaparral offers all the services and facilities you would expect from one of the Costa del Sol’s best courses including a 32 bay driving range, 18 hole practice putting green, pro-shop, restaurant and bar, clubhouse and golf academy offering group and individual golf lessons.

Once you have finished your round, head for the clubhouse where you can enjoy a cool drink and some tasty local dishes while overlooking the course and pine forests from one of the outside terraces.

Santa maria

Santa Maria Golf is a course that a lot of our golfers like to play at the end of their golf trip.

The course is really a nice wide course that makes for a not so tough last round of golf.

The 1st is a wonderful starting hole leading away from the clubhouse, you must hit over a small lake to a very friendly fairway, aim to the right and the ball will roll back nicely into the middle to leave you and easy approach, big hitter may get there in one!.

Their are some very nice holes here that allow you to use driver or woods off the tee without worrying about going out of the course and still being near enough to reach the first par 5 in 2.

Parador

If you are spending a golf holiday here on the Costa del Sol, then why not give yourself a treat and tell your friends that you have played Andalucia’s oldest golf course?

The Parador de Málaga Golf course was first opened in 1925 as a nine hole course under the supervision of Harry Sephard Colt. Colt was one of the leading golf course designers in his day and was responsible for the famous Wentworth course in Surrey.

Some years later, the course was extended into an 18 hole course by Tom Simpson, who is also well known for being the architect of many famous golf courses including Turnberry and Muirfield in Scotland.
