Golf Courses
Valderrama Golf Sotogrande
Valderrama Golf is the jewel in the crown here in Spain and arguably Europe.
The course is completely covered in cork trees over lapping the lush green fairways making some driving and approach shots very difficult indeed, but then you wouldn’t want this golf course to be easy!
You get a feeling when you stand on the 1st tee and the starter announces the start of what is an amazing round of golf you are standing where “Sevi” stood and many other greats of the golf world and that is why playing Valderrama is a must for any golfer.
The fairways are inviting and fair but you have to pay attention to the course planner otherwise after hitting what you might think is a great shot….be disappointed to find your shot has left you without a clear shot to hit the green in 2 say on a par 4, remember BUY A COURSE PLANNER!
The 4th par 5 is one of the nicest holes i have played with the beautiful cascade of water running along and up the side of the rather small green and if you hit that you will be very pleased.
As with the famous 17th and if you are a big hitter then your goal is to make this difficult par 5 in 2! Go on you may only play it once

“This golf course requires players to use all the clubs in their bag. It’s very entertaining and can be made either easy or difficult. The course is very large featuring wide fairways and greens, in addition to being very well contoured”. – Santiago Luna (Four-time Spanish national champion)
Finca Cortesin Golf
If you are visiting us here on the Costa del Sol for your golfing trip this year, then you simply must play the splendid Finca Cortesin course.
Not only was it voted as one of Spain’s best golf courses by Golf Digest Magazine, it has also had the privilege of hosting the prestigious Volvo World Matchplay competition in 2009, 2011 and 2012.
Located in Casares, between Marbella and Sotogrande, the course measures a little over 6,800 metres from the back tees. But don’t worry, the course can also accommodate those with higher handicaps offering 5 different tee positions.
The course is simply stunning and has been beautifully designed and crafted into the natural Mediterranean landscapes of the area.
The exceptional quality of the course cannot be overstated. Sergio Garcia summed it up beautifully when he said that the greens were on par with those of the Augusta National course.
The Finca Cortesin course is considered to be one of the longest courses in Europe.
As you would expect, the Finca Cortesin resort not only offers you the opportunity to play one of Spain’s best golf courses, but you will also enjoy the other facilities available including the Nicklaus Academy, luxury hotel and spa, restaurant, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gymnasium, tennis and a 6,000 sqm beach club.
Sotogrande Golf
The Sotogrande golf course is situated within the Cadiz province of Spain and is just 1.5 km from the neighbouring Valderrama course.
Also known as Real Club de Golf Sotogrande the course was opened in 1964 after being designed by the famous course designer, Robert Trent Jones and has hosted a number of professional tournaments since the mid 60’s.
The course was the first in Europe to be designed by Jones and is considered by GolfWeb editorial staff as one of the top 100 golf courses in the world and in the top 5 best courses in Europe. Golf Magazine also voted two particular holes on the course (7 and 12) to be two of the best holes in world golf!
The Course
As you would expect with any golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande course is of the highest standards and offers a fabulous golfing experience.
The fairways of the course are wide and fast and there are many elevated greens just waiting to draw your approach shots into the bunkers. In all there are around 100 bunkers on the course, many of which have been strategically placed around the greens.
The course has a total par of 72 and measures 6,304 metres in length. On the whole, the course is suitable for golfers of varying abilities. If you are coming to Spain for a golfing holiday, then this is a course you will most definitely want to play!
