Golf Courses

Parador Links

The course which is located close to Málaga airport is suitable for not only experienced golfers, but is also ideal for beginners as well. The course is nice and flat and offers wide fairways for you to aim your tee shots at.

The Parador Malaga golf course is a par 72 with a total of 6,173 metres in length. If you want to try and beat the course record you will have to shoot a 61 as local boy Miguel Ángel Jiménez is the current holder with a 10 under par 62 which he shot in the 1999 Turespaña Masters.

Torrequebrada

You are then greeted by a very strange if not unusual par 3 where you have to take a sand iron so as not to overshoot the small green below your elevated tee box.

Torrequebrada golf is considered by many to be one of Spain’s top golf courses.

It was constructed in the late 70s and is situated in the resort of Benalmadena. The greens and fairways will always be found in excellent condition.

Torrequebrada was one of Bing Crosby’s favourite golf courses when visiting the Costa. It inspired one of today’s top golfers Miguel Angel Jimenez to take up the game, after watching Seve Ballesteros, Sandy Lyle and Sam Torrance whilst caddying at the 1979 Spanish Open.

Guadalhorce

The Guadalhorce course is a par 72 and is split into two distinct halves.

The front nine is very similar to a British parkland style course, but comprises of more of the tropical vegetation associated with this particular part of the Mediterranean.

The back nine is a little more difficult, with undulating fairways, lakes and elevated greens. A number of the large greens, which were designed by legendary Spanish golfer Miguel Ángel Jiménez, are shared between different holes.

Lauro Resort

Lauro Golf is a cracking course and one of the most popular golf courses in Malaga.

You will find Lauro Golf surrounded by spectacular nature. The course has 27 holes that can be played in three different combinations, all of par 72.

The picture above, the 27th, for me is the best hole at Lauro 513 meters par 5 looking down over the whole course, Guadalhorce Valley, the port of Malaga and the Mediterranean sea.

Don’t lose your drive to the right here or you will have one less ball in your bag and the boys that fish them out will have one more!!.

Mijas Los Olivos

The Los Olivos Course has undergone extensive regeneration in recent years to bring the course up to USGA requirements.

The main difference between Olivos and Lagos are the tree lined undulating fairways you will find on Los Olivos compared to the Los Lagos course, which is much more open, but scattered with lakes and sand traps to suck your ball in.

Mijas Los Lagos

The Mijas Los Lagos course is the longest of the two. In 2012 the course was closed for one year and underwent a full makeover, widening fairways, adding new streams, lakes, bunkers plus installation of a state of the art watering and drainage system, which allows the course to be played in all weather conditions.

The first is a cracking par five, if you get a great drive away!! (slightly down the left) you will be able to have a bash at reaching the green in two.

This course is very open and unless you find one of the many lakes you will struggle to lose a ball. There is very little rough to be found anywhere, but don’t let that fool you into thinking this is an easy course, as it plays long!!

Santana

Santana Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole golf course par 72 and measures approximately 6203 metres or just under 7,000 yards in length. The course sits in the middle of 138 acres of stunning parkland filled with Avocado trees, along with many other trees such as Eucalyptus, Orange and Lemons, Cactus, Pines and Fig. All you need to do, is make sure you do not put your ball in the middle of them!
